Judy, you raise a very good point. First of all, community service is never about publicity. Jesus was very clear about that in his teachings...when he healed, he instructed them to tell no one. He spoke of doing great things in secret...not letting the right hand see what the left is doing, etc. If a church is more concerned with good press than the actual good they are doing, I'd say their "missional" efforts are greatly misplaced.

In the same vein, if the fellowship is completely neglected, this is unbiblical as well. Take Acts 6, for example. When the Greek widows were being neglected, the apostles had them choose 7 from among them to care for them, so that they could concentrate their efforts on the teaching of the gospel message.

The key, here, is simple: find a healthy balance. Love and care for those that God has entrusted to you, empower & equip them to care for their community, and watch what God will do!

Thanks for sharing!

Hmm. You make a very good point about the church being self centered, but my own church seems to have quite the opposite problem. They ignore the needs of their own congregation in favor of all kinds of outreach. the roof is leaking, the sunday school classrooms have broken ceilings and a mold problem, and parishoner requests for pastoral care are ignored. Then church, however, seems to be focused on getting great publicty from their efforts on behalf of local the homeless shelter, the soup kitchen, the craft fair, various missions projects, the sister diocese...
So where do we draw the line between serving the wider community and paying attention to Galations 6:10?

This type of scam has been out since before ISDN was invented and 9,600 baud modems were the in thing. It's a phony as your sarcasm suggests. Best bet is to delete and carry on smartly. Nothing is free, nothing!

Good luck on your endeavors. Prayers are with ya!

Yes I have also received one. I even checked the list of lawyers & firms in London England. I couldn't find anything in the Lexis/Nexis. I also noticed that the website isn't even ready for viewing yet! and I also found this blog entry by googling the firm name.

The Ten Commandments of Worship Leading:

1. Thou shalt choose good songs.

2. Thou shalt show a sense of style.

3. Thou shalt play thy songs at the appropriate tempo, so as to add to the emotionalism of the service.

4. Thou shalt choose a key in keeping with the vocal abilities of the group. Thou shalt not B flat.

5. Thou shalt design thy stages in a manner that places attention on the band and speaker.

6. Thou shalt design thy slides so that the audience need not read music or the Bible.

7. Thou shalt plan thy transitions so as not to break the spell of theatrics.

8. Thou shalt be a complimentary opening act for the speaker.

9. Thou shalt not allow for authenticity or the moving of the Spirit.

10. Thou shalt distract the audience from the reason for worship.

PS--The problem is not with you.
